Selecting a videographer can best be accomplished by obtaining referrals from family and friends who have had personal experience with his or her work. Before you meet with the videographer you will need to know the date, time and location of your wedding and reception. You need to check with the ceremony and reception sites to make sure there are no restrictions regarding videography.

When meeting with the videographer, ask to see samples of his/her work. Explain in great detail what you would like your video to contain such as special music for the introduction, whether or not photographs are to be used of the bride and groom as children, the events to be shot on your wedding day and the sequence and whether or not to record personal messages from the bride and groom to each other before the ceremony. Many times at the reception the videographer will go around to your guests and have them record personal messages of congratulations to the couple as well.

Questions and considerations for your videographer include:

  • Is he/she familiar with the ceremony and reception site(lighting, sound and angles are critical for videos)?

  • How many hours will he/she video at the ceremony and reception?

  • Do you receive the master tape and how many videos come in the package?

  • How many people will be shooting the video?

  • Look at the contract and add any special requests in writing, along with their costs.

  • What is the package cost, what does it include, and what is the deposit required?

  • When is the balance due?
